Description
This gives an overview of how sound is measured and an explanation of some of the primary parameters used to describe sound. These includes choice of microphones (free field, diffuse field, pressure field), choice of detector type (RMS – Peak) and choice of averaging time/time constant (fast - slow – impulse or Leq/linear averaging).Field calibration/check is also discussed and demonstrated.
Objectives
Enable the participant knowledge about how to make sound pressure level measurements by giving an overview of how to choose the most fundamental parameters that are available on Sound Level Meters and frequency analyzers.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge in mathematics, physics and electrical measurements is recommended. Some knowledge of fundamental acoustics is preferred.
Participants
A course for engineers and technicians involved in measuring sound using for example Sound Level Meters or frequency analyzers.
