Noise and vibration control is gaining importance for the industrial engineer to meet increasingly strict acoustic requirements. These are imposed by more stringent regulations and by marketing requirements resulting from a more demanding end-user of the product.
These acoustic requirements can only be met by considering noise and vibration control as an integral part of the product creation process, which in turn puts tremendous pressure on the industrial design engineer.
This three-day course gives the industrial engineer a thorough understanding of the basic concepts that are important for airborne and structure-borne noise and vibration in machinery. The understanding of these basic principles will enable the course participant to distinguish the different aspects of noise and vibration generation and transmission and apply these principles in practice.
A number of methods and means to reduce noise and vibration generation and transmission will be presented. During the course many examples and acoustic demonstrations will be given.
Course content
• Principles of Acoustics
• Principles of Vibration
• Fundamentals of sound and vibration analysis
• Frequency Analysis methods
• Acoustic variables and their relationships
• Perception of sound
• Noise and vibration generation mechanisms
• Noise and vibration transmission
• Noise and vibration control techniques
• Calculation and measurement methods
The course is intended for design and test engineers, for whom noise and vibration control is an integrated part of the product creation process.
Although no special prior knowledge is required, a basic understanding of physics and mathematics is recommended. Additionally sales engineers charged with the job of selling products may wish to attend in order to update their vocabulary.
Attendees will learn the basic principles of noise and vibration control engineering of machinery and other products, which are necessary for the integration of low noise design concepts in the product creation process. You will be able to communicate efficiently with specialists, customers and suppliers in the field of noise and vibration control.
