Setting targets

Consumers identify sound as a major criterion in impressions of the overall quality of a product. However, achieving desirable sound quality goes far beyond basic sound level analysis. It requires tools that can measure human responses to sound characteristics and identify key characteristics of the sound that correlate to human perceptions of quality. These tools must be able to identify those aspects of the design that can be modified to eliminate specific, objectionable sounds and yet retain appropriate, desirable sounds.

Brüel & Kjær’s Sound Quality solutions provide the tools for recording, analysing, auditioning, dissecting, and synthesising sounds. The range enables the use of simulation models and test data to develop modifications to improve the sound quality and to achieve the ultimate objective of designing the desired sound characteristics into the product.
