Health and Safety
Noise induced hearing loss is the second most common occupational disease, and vibration induced hand-arm and whole-body injuries are becoming more and more common as machinery and work environments apply more stress to the human body. Therefore, to maintain happy, healthy employees and ensure compliance with safety regulations, employers and health authorities are putting more awareness on occupational health and safety.
Brüel & Kjær offers a wide range of resources to facilitate awareness and reduce and prevent noise and vibration induced injuries at work, including:
- Innovative equipment, such as hand-held devices and personal meters, to assess the noise and vibration exposure of individual workers, groups or areas without impeding individuals from doing their job
- High-quality analysis tools to pinpoint locations, processes or equipment that could put employees at risk
- Standards-based software to ensure compliance with international or national regulations
- Up-to-date knowledge of the latest programmes, standards and legislation to stay compliant, take action to solve current issues and plan for the future
Noise at Work
Work environments can be loud – periodically or consistently. The noise can be all over or just in a few areas. These variations make the determination of safe noise levels difficult. Brüel & Kjær’s solutions meet any workplace noise measurement challenge – from noise dose meters that track the total daily exposure, to sound level meters that can perform stationary long-term data analysis or process data for a more pass-fail approach.
Exposure to hand-arm vibration can lead to serious problems such as white finger, joint and muscle damage. To combat these problems, safety requirements, directives and legislation have been put into effect. While the directives and standards have been designed to facilitate beneficial data acquisition, the tools to do so were not. Brüel & Kjær has designed the industry’s best accelerometers and mounting solutions that solve the logistical problems of where to put measurement equipment while maintaining valid and quality data acquisition.
Vehicle operators are subjected to a fairly constant dose of whole-body vibration. Over time every jolt, bump and jitter can damage the back, muscles and joints. An accurate assessment of the vibration is vital for maintaining operator health. Brüel & Kjær‘s cutting-edge solutions provide the means to assess and analyse all of the factors involved in whole-body vibration in the field or in a laboratory.
