PULSE 15

Building Acoustics system
Every year a new version of PULSE is introduced, and 2010 is no exception. With the advent of PULSE 15 this autumn, both new owners and existing users with maintenance and support agreements will benefit from the long PULSE heritage started in 1995.

Developed as an advanced system for sound and vibration measurement, PULSE was the first professional real-time sound and vibration analyzer to realise the potential of the PC; a programmable environment that did not rely on expensive UNIX workstations. Billed at the time as the analyzer of the future, PULSE is still with us now, proving it is not a fly-by-night product.

If further evidence is needed, just look at the enhancements noted below and you will see that PULSE is not just a fifteen year old system, but is a living product that is still growing.

LAN-XI Family of Modules, Frames and Accessories

PULSE 15 includes these additions to the already well established LAN-XI data acquisition family:

LAN-XI Notar, a PC-less, battery powered data recorder
  • Type 3053, the unique 12-channel high-density data analyzer, fully compatible (magnitude and phase match) with all existing LAN-XI types. Type 3053 allows much easier and cost effective multichannel noise and vibration testing.
  • LAN-XI Notar™,  an embedded application that turns LAN-XI input modules into self-contained, PC-less data recorders.
  • Type 3660-C LAN-XI 5-slot Frame, perfect for field and in-vehicle measurements. Type 3660-C accomodates up to 60 channels in a compact, easy-to-carry chassis. Flexible power options include mains (AC), in-vehicle power point and optional battery.
  • MM-0360 Laser Tacho Probe is the world's first tachometer that uses a continuous wave laser to make jitter-free rotational speed measurements from 0 to 300,000 RPM, and only powered by a standard CCLD/DeltaTron power supply.

Time-data Post Processing

PULSE Reflex Core is the nucleus for off-line time-data processing. PULSE 15 enhancements to PULSE Reflex Core include a graphical user interface that optimises your workflow so you can share data across applications, visualise results quickly, and create high-quality reports with ease. The tools introduced in PULSE Reflex Core enhance the software with ease-of-use handling large numbers of data files as the focus.

Acoustic Measurement and Analysis

PULSE 15 introduces the following new and enhanced software-based systems for acoustic measurement and analysis:

  • BZ-5638, an Array Acoustics Metrics Calculations Suite to map sound quality metrics. Users have access to stationary loudness, sharpness, statistical loudness, roughness, fluctuation strength, articulation index, impulsiveness, psychoacoustic annoyance or combined metrics (developed in partnership with Isuzu Motors Ltd., Japan).
  • Type 7914 Wind Turbine Sound Power, a turnkey system allowing sound power and tonality measurements of wind turbines and their components according to the latest versions of IEC61400–11 and FGW (Fördergesellschaft Windenergie) Technischen Richtlinie für Windenergie.
  • Type 8780 PULSE Reflex Building Acoustics, a flexible and intuitive package for managing all aspects of post-processing building acoustics measurements. Now improved with functions such as comparing levels, support of Type 2250 and Type 2270 projects and general performance improvements.
  • Type 8601 PULSE NVH Simulator, now offered with many improvements, in particular driving and visuals, including advanced force feedback, for example, for off-road and kerbs, and significantly improved audio performance allowing larger and more realistic sound models to be used.

Structural Dynamics

As well as significant enhancements to hardware, time-data post processing, and acoustic measurement and analysis, PULSE 15 offers the following new and improved structural dynamics packages:

  • Type 8730 PULSE Reflex Shock Response Spectrum, used to calculate, with just a few clicks in the dedicated user interface, most common shock response spectra compatible with ISO 18431-4:2007 standard for shock response analysis.
  • Type 8720 PULSE Reflex Modal Analysis, whose new features include enhanced mode solutions for optimum clarity of stability diagrams, local solve urve-fitting for modal parameter estimation in cases of inconsistent FRF data, and the ability to extract and animate spectral ODS to compare with mode shapes.
  • Type 7798-E PULSE Time Domain Source Path Contribution, allowing decomposition of sound and vibration into contributions.By using, for example, the Impedance Matrix Method, order analysis of the contributions becomes very easy.
  • Type 7753  Modal Test Consultant, offering improved flexibility in measurement sequencing by freely allowing how to rove excitations and responses during a measurement. Consistency check to compare FRFs across spectra is another new feature.
  • Type 7760 Operational Modal Analysis, now with significant speed improvements in automatic identification of deterministic signals, and introducing the SSI-UPC merged data sets technique for improved ease-of-use and faster calculation speed when several data sets are used.

Software Maintenance

Businesses with a PULSE Software Maintenance and Support Agreement (M1) get the following benefits:

  • PULSE is tested to work with Microsoft® Windows® – keeps PULSE secure and reliable
  • PULSE is regularly upgraded  –  incorporating newest technology and applications
  • Exclusive access to fast hotline support
  • Company-wide unification of the PULSE software version  – gives staff and equipment flexibility
  • Attractive offers during the year
  • An exclusive quarterly newsmail

M1 owners can get their system upgraded to PULSE 15 free-of-charge.
