Environmental Noise Management
The tasks involved in managing environmental noise in, for example, cities are many and varied - from solving noise complaints to noise mapping, from policing noise limits to noise abatement and zoning. Reports must be made and the public kept informed, and all data, results, reports, analyses, etc. must be safely and intuitively archived for easy retrieval. In addition, there are a wide variety of noises from different sources such as industry, transportation and many different forms for recreational activities.
A wide range of tools are available to help in the various tasks involved in managing environmental noise, from simple sound level meters to permanent noise monitoring stations, from post-processing software to calculation software, from advanced analysis tools such as sound intensity or narrow-band analysis to central noise monitoring software.
A new, integrated approach to environmental noise management has the potential to make work more efficient through the sharing and reuse of data, optimisation of noise management activities and prevention of new problems arising.
