Frequently asked questions about UPGRADING licenses:

Q. When do I have to UPGRADE my PULSE license?
A: Upgrading an existing software license is only necessary when you upgrade from a previous PULSE version to a new major version (for example, from version 11.X to version 12.X).


Q: Where do I find the PULSE License Manager?
A: From Start > All Programs, run PULSE LabShop. When the License Finder appears, click Manager to open the License Manager. If it does not, you can open the License Manager through the Tools menu in PULSE LabShop.


Q: How do I find the Host ID for login to license.bksv.com ?
A: PULSE License Manager shows a list of available Host IDs.
If licenses are locked to a USB dongle, right click and copy “Dongle” in the list of Host ID(s).
If license are locked to the PC, right click and copy “Local Computer” in the list of Host ID(s).

Q: How do I find License Centre?

Q: How can I upgrade the license when the PC is not connected to Internet?
A: Please follow ths procedure:

  1. If your PC is not connected to the Internet, connect to the Internet from any PC, go to the License Centre and enter the Host ID.
  2. Save the license as: File name: *.lic, Save as type: .lic document and Logout.
  3. Using a portable data storage device, transfer the file to the PC running the software
  4. Open License Manager again and Browse for the saved license file.
  5. PULSE License Manager automatically stores the license file in the correct License folder.

An alternative is to e-mail the file and save it from there.

Q: How can I see if my licenses are permanent?
A: In PULSE License Manager, select Show, Available Licenses. If it shows “never” under expire, then you have permanent license. You can also use a text editor to open the license file and read whether it is permanent.

Q: How can I go back to an older version e.g. PULSE 10?
A: The license is backward compatible. Your current license allows you to install an older PULSE version.

Q: What if I get errors although I have downloaded and installed the new license file?
A: Use the Browse function in License Manager to drag the old license file to the Archive folder

Q: Where can I find downloads of entire PULSE versions?
A: Login to License Centre to the last screen.

 

 

Frequently asked questions about licenses for NEW software:


 

Q: How do I get started with license for new PULSE software installed on one PC?
A: The software package sent to you by Brüel & Kjær contains a DVD with the PULSE software, a USB dongle and a mini-disc. The mini-disc contains your software license, which has been node-locked to the USB dongle by Brüel & Kjær prior to shipment. To be able to use PULSE you need to install the license on your PC and attach the USB dongle.

  1. Insert the PULSE Installation DVD in your PC’s DVD drive and follow the instructions to complete the installation.
  2. Run the License Installation mini-disc.
  3. Click #1 Install PULSE Software License.
  4. When you see the message ‘.lic has been successfully installed on your computer’, click OK and exit the installation program.
  5. Attach the USB dongle to the PC
  6. Your software is now ready for use.
  7. The saved license is permanent and need not be renewed unless you upgrade to a new major software version.

Q: How do I install floating license on a server?
A: When you have purchased Brüel & Kjær software, your electronic license must be fulfilled before you can use the software. Fulfilment means that the licenses must be locked to the server hardware. Go to license.bksv.com to fulfil licenses. For installation of licenses, please see the License Fulfilment Guide (BE 1693).

 

 

Frequently asked questions about moving licenses and lost licenses

Q: My license is still on a parallel-port dongle. How can I transfer it to a USB?
A: The parallel-port dongle is not supported for PULSE 12 and later versions. Please contact your local Brüel & Kjær representative to arrange for re-hosting from the parallel-port dongle to the USB dongle.

Q: Does the license allow me to use the software on multiple PCs?
A: If you want to use PULSE on multiple PCs, you must install the license on all PCs. Remember to attach the USB dongle. You can install the software on any number of PCs, but only run it on one PC at a time

Q: How can I use licenses from two PCs on one PC?
A: The same PC must have both license files and both USB dongles attached.

Q: What if I upgrade my PC?
A: If your license is node-locked to a USB dongle, it is not affected when you upgrade or replace any part of the PC.

Q: What if I need to move the license to another PC or I have got a new PC?
A: The other PC needs the license file: Copy the license file from the mini-CD to the other PC. You can also choose to login to the license.bksv.com and download the license file (like for upgrading license). Continue to use the same USB dongle on the other PC.

Q: What if I get a new PC and I have the license locked to the PC?
A: Please contact your local Brüel & Kjær representative to arrange re-hosting of the license. If you have a PULSE Software Maintenance and Support Agreement this is free of charge.

Q: I received the new PULSE software and the USB key, but the small license CD is lost. How do I get started?
A: Find your License Authorisation Code and go to the license.bksv.com to download the license file.

Q: What if I have lost my USB dongle?
A: Please contact your local Brüel & Kjær representative. You will be asked to fill out a declaration to get a new USB dongle including re-hosting of licenses to the new dongle. If you have a PULSE Software Maintenance and Support Agreement this is free of charge.

Q: Can I work off-line with a floating license?
A: If you need to borrow a floating license to work off-line, please contact your local Brüel & Kjær representative.

 

 

 

Frequently asked questions about Brüel & Kjær licenses in general


Q: What is the License Authorisation Card?
A: The License Authorisation Card is included with the delivery of your new PULSE software. It contains the License Authorisation Code and the Host ID, which you need for upgrade.

Q: What is a Host ID?
A: A Host ID (for example, 4C8346B25) is a unique identifier that cannot be replicated. It is used to lock licenses to protect against unauthorised use. See previous explanation on how to find the Host ID.

Q: What exactly is “fulfilling a license”?
A: You can install the PULSE software without a license. Before you can start using the installed software you must tie the license to specific hardware. This is to FULFIL the license.

Q: How can I see which licenses I have access to?
A: Go to License Manager in PULSE LabShop. Click “Available Licenses” and a list will be displayed.
