Vibration & Acoustic Testing with FFT

PULSE Lite Basic 2-channel FFT Analyzer Type 3560 L-L02

  • Measure the frequency and amplitude of vibration and noise by using the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT)
  • Investigate the root cause of problems by using contour and waterfall displays to differentiate driving forces from natural resonances on variable speed objects
  • Quantify the performance of parts by overlaying measurements
  • Trigger on transient events like squeaks and rattles

Typical vibration or acoustic test setup:

Demonstration Video

Analysis of Non-stationary Noise from a Chainsaw
Video presentation showing measurement of non-stationary noise from a chainsaw using PULSE Lite FFT Analyzer. The demonstration shows both how to measure the overall noise spectrum and how to follow the variations of the signal as a function of time using linear and exponential averaging respectively. A complete picture of the noise signal is shown using the waterfall display and the contour plot. Finally, the Uncertainty Principle is briefly discussed and illustrated using different settings of the analyzer.

Analysis of Stationary Noise in a Power Plant
Video presentation of how to analyse stationary noise with audible tones using PULSE Lite FFT Narrow Band Analyzer. In the presentation you will see how to read the exact frequencies and associated levels in the frequency spectrum using the main cursor. And the demonstration will show how it is possible, with the use of the harmonic cursor, to determine the fundamental frequency with an accuracy that is better than the resolution of the analysis itself.

Calibration using PULSE Lite (7min. 24sec.)
- Low resolution version (reduced quality).
Video presentation showing how easy it is to perform microphone and accelerometer calibration using PULSE Lite.
