Data Preparation Tool for the NVH Simulator

The NVH Simulator's Data Preparation Tool (DPT) provides you with the tools for extracting both NVH data and vehicle performance characteristics from recordings made on the road or on a test bench.

DPT contains all the decomposition tools necessary for efficient and easy processing of NVH recordings. Validation tools are included to check the integrity of the data.

The purpose of DPT is to:

  • Prepare NVH data to allow the user to perform free driving in the NVH DeskTop Simulator. This can be done by decomposing the noise of the vehicle into engine related noise and the residual noise (e.g., wind, road, tyre noise)
  • Allow the engine-related noise and the residual noise to be decomposed into finer components, which means that the user can listen to these components individually
  • Configure a free-driving performance model from vehicle speed/time and rpm/time curves as well as permit editing of an existing model to meet new design criteria

The result will be sound objects, which contain the data together with the rules that determine how the sounds will be synthesized in real-time based on values from a performance model derived from on-road measurements. Performance models define the relationship between the instantaneous position of the controls (throttle, brake, gear) and the vehicle’s road speed and engine rpm. The sound objects are then saved in a database from which you can extract when creating a Simulator model for vehicle assessment.

Recordings are assigned to nodes in the model tree either individually or by batches using DOFs
RPM profiles are calculated, smoothed and a range selected for before decomposition
Results of the decomposition can be displayed by drag and drop functionality
Cross spectra displayed as a function of order
Multiple coherence decomposition tool showing the coherence matrix
