SU2Odeon Google SketchUp plug-in
SketchUp (SU) is a revolutionary 3D CAD software available from Google at http://sketchup.google.com. It makes drawing even complex 3D models really just as simple as sketching them. Sketchup is widely used and is an ideal tool for any Odeon user, who needs to create room geometry from scratch.
The standard version of SketchUp can be downloaded and used free of charge, but only supports its own file format. If you want to export models in a DXF, 3DS or any other industry standard format supported by Odeon, you would have to purchase the professional version.
However, the SU2Odeon plug-in for Google SketchUp allows you to directly convert SketchUp models into Odeon models directly from within SketchUp. It can be used with both the standard and professional SketchUp version.
This is the way it works:
- Install the plug-in (see step by step instructions below).
- Create your model in SketchUp.
- Save your SketchUp model in the Odeon room folder.
- Press the Odeon icon in the SketchUp toolbar. The SU2Odeon plugin will then convert and save the SketchUp model as an ODEON file ready to be opened in Odeon.
Plug-In Installation
- Download the SU2Odeon.ZIP file. It is recommended to save the file to your computer, e.g., in your desktop or downloads folder.
- Unzip the .ZIP file’s contents once the file transfer is complete and save it to a temporary directory. The Zip file contains one folder SU2Odeon, two text files, a PDF and the plugin file SU2Odeon.rbs.
- If Google SketchUp is running end all sessions.
- Copy the folder SU2Odeon and the plug-in file SU2Odeon.rbs into the SketchUp plug-in folder, e.g. C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 8\Plugins. The exact path may be different on your computer, depending on where SketchUp was installed.
- Restart Google SketchUp. The toolbar should now also contain the Odeon icon.
