Sound Level Meter Calibration

Our Sound Level Meters are calibrated to the requirements of the standards they are designed to. HBK has approved service centers for calibration to meet national, legal requirements.

Sound Level Meters are calibrated to the requirements in the standards they are designed to: IEC 61672, IEC 60651/ 60804, BS 7580, ANSI S1 4, and/or ANSI S1.43.

Also, 1/1-octave and 1/3-octave filter calibrations according to IEC 61260 are available for the frequency range from 6.3 Hz to 20 kHz.

In addition to standard Sound Level Meter calibrations, HBK has approved service centers for calibration to meet national, legal requirements.

Accredited Calibration

Accredited calibration primarily fulfils requirements for legal purposes. HBK can provide the following accreditation for our sound level meters:

  • DANAK (English certificate)
  • A2LA (English certificate)
  • ENAC (Spanish certificate)
  • NATA (English certificate)
  • Inmetro, Brazil (Portuguese certificate)

Initial Calibration

We recommend you order accredited calibration together with your new sound level meter, to start your calibration history from the very first day.

Re-Calibration and Measurement

HBK recommends annual re-calibration to provide data for an unbroken calibration history. This can then be used as a reference for internal requirements, for auditing required by authorities, or at the request of your customers.

Measurements of sound level meters are according to standards IEC 61672, IEC 60651/ 60804, BS 7580, ANSI S1 4, and ANSI S1.43. Initial calibrations on new sound level meters Types 2250, 2250 Light and 2270 will be performed according to IEC 61672. This applies for calibration according to accreditation bodies DANAK and ENAC.

Re-calibration of Types 2250, 2250 Light and 2270 for DANAK and ENAC will be performed to the latest standard, IEC 61672, unless you specify another standard on the order.

Measurements are traceable to institutions such as DPLA, NIST, NPL and PTB.

Additional Calibration

  • Calibration of filter response for 1/1-octave and 1/3-octave filters according to IEC 61260
  • Calibration of filters for the range 6.3 Hz to 20 kHz
  • Filter calibration is provided for an additional fee

Calibration Certificate

The certificate for accredited calibration gives you:

  • Proof that calibration has been performed according to the quality requirements in ISO 17025
  • Measurement results as well as associated uncertainties
  • Internationally accepted certificate with the logo of the accreditation body
  • Air temperature, air pressure and relative humidity.

The certificate includes all measurement results.

Traceable Calibration

Measurements of sound level meters are performed according to standards IEC 61672, IEC 60651/ 60804, BS 7580, ANSI S1 4, and ANSI S1.43.

Initial calibrations on new sound level meters Types 2250, 2250 Light and 2270 are performed according to IEC 61672.

Legal Verification

HBK can provide legal verification for:

  • Customers in Spain: Primitiva
  • Customers in Austria: Eichung

Please note that legal verification does not contain measurement results.

Verification/Conformance Testing

HBK can provide instrument verification:

  • A conformance test certifies that the instrument has been tested, has passed all production tests, and complies with the manufacturer's published specifications
  • You will receive a Certificate of Conformance

Please note that instrument verification does not contain measurement results.
