Operational Modal Analysis (OMA)
Complete OMA Measurement on a Helicopter Blade
Operational Modal Analysis, also called output-only modal analysis, conducts a modal analysis without knowing and/or controlling the input excitation. This modal technology is capable of estimating the same modal parameters as the traditionally known techniques. The modal parameters are the mode shape, the natural frequency, and the damping ratio. In this video, Naira Costa will talk you through and perform a complete OMA measurement on a helicopter blade together with OMA expert Professor Dr. Edilson Camargo, - Head of Integration and Testing Lab at The Institute of Aeronautics and Space (Instituto de Aeronáutica e Espaço, IAE).
In this video we will go behind the scenes and find more about the following topics:
- Modal testing: what is it?
- What is the difference between experimental modal analysis and operational modal analysis
- How to prepare the structure, best practices
- Transducers and geometry
- Measurements and results
